Most salon clients find you on Instagram. Then they hit "DM to book", send a message at 11pm, and wait. By the time you reply in the morning, half of them have booked somewhere that let them pick a time on the spot.
A booking link fixes that: the client taps, chooses a service and a free time, and they're in your calendar while you sleep. This guide covers where to put the link on Instagram, what to write in your bio, how to answer DMs with it, and the mistakes that make people tap and leave.
Why does "DM to book" lose clients?
Because it turns a one-minute decision into a conversation that can take a day. The client asks for the price, waits, asks for a time, waits again, and every gap is a chance to lose interest or find another salon. A link lets them finish in one go, at the moment they want to book, including late at night when you're not answering.
Online booking at any hour isn't a nice extra anymore; many clients expect it. More on that in why clients expect to book anytime.
Where should you put your booking link on Instagram?
In five places, in this order of importance: first link in your bio, a link sticker in Stories, a pinned Highlight, a saved quick reply for DMs, and a short "link in bio" line in posts and Reels. Captions don't make links clickable, so posts only point people back to the bio.
| Place | How to set it up | When it works best |
|---|---|---|
| Bio | Edit profile → Links → add the booking link first. Instagram allows up to five links; the first is the one shown. | Always. It's the first place people look. |
| Stories | Add the Link sticker and paste the booking link. Label it "Book now". | Free slots today or this week, last-minute openings. |
| Highlight | Save a Story with the link sticker to a Highlight called "Book". | Permanent, sits right under the bio. |
| DMs | Save a quick reply with a short text and the link (professional accounts). | Every "price?" or "do you have time on Friday?" message. |
| Posts and Reels | End captions with "Book via the link in bio". | Every post that shows your work. |
Instagram's own "Book" button only works with booking platforms that are official Meta partners. If yours isn't one, the link in bio and Stories does the same job.
What should a salon's Instagram bio say?
Three things in about 150 characters: what you do and where, one detail that sets you apart, and a clear instruction to book through the link. Clients skim bios in a second, so put the action in the last line, right above the link, and skip phrases like "DM for prices".
Examples you can adapt:
Color & balayage in Austin ✂️ Lived-in blondes that grow out soft. Book your time below 👇
Barbershop · Downtown Miami · Walk-ins welcome, appointments first. Pick your barber and time 👇
Lash & brow studio · Toronto · 1:1 appointments, no waiting room. Online booking, open 24/7 👇
Nails · Gel · Russian manicure · Prices and free times in the link 👇
Should you use a link-in-bio tool or the direct booking link?
Use the direct booking link if booking is the main thing you want people to do. A link-in-bio page adds one extra tap before the client sees free times, and every extra tap loses some people. If you do need several links (shop, price list, reviews), put booking first in Instagram's own list of up to five links rather than hiding it inside another page.
How do you answer DMs with the link without sounding like a bot?
Answer the question first, then give the link. A client who asks "how much is a balayage?" wants the price, not a link alone. One short line with the answer, one line with the link, and a friendly close works better than a copied block of text.
Hi! Balayage starts at $180, depending on length. You can see all free times and book here: {booking link}. Any questions, just write 😊
Hey! This Friday we still have 11:00 and 16:30. Grab the one that suits you here: {booking link}
Do the same on WhatsApp
If clients also message you on WhatsApp, use the same link there. WhatsApp Business lets you add a website to your profile, set a greeting message for first-time contacts, an away message for after hours, and quick replies. Put the booking link in all four, and the 11pm message gets an answer even when you're asleep. For why this matters so much in Latin America, see why salons lose clients on WhatsApp.
Mistakes that make people tap and leave
- The link goes to your homepage. The client wants free times, not your story. Link straight to the booking page.
- Booking needs an account or an app. Every sign-up screen loses people who were ready to book.
- No prices on the booking page. If the client still has to DM to ask the price, the link didn't do its job.
- Times that aren't real. If your hours or your team's hours are wrong, clients book slots you can't take. See how to set different working hours per staff member.
- Changing the link. Every Story, Highlight and saved reply still has the old one, and in Pronto an old address stops working. Pick the address once and keep it.
How Pronto handles your booking link
Every business on Pronto gets its own booking page link. You find it in Settings → General, in the Online booking page section, on the "Your link for clients" line: copy it and paste it into your bio, Stories, quick replies and WhatsApp. A client who taps it chooses a service, a staff member if you have several, and a free time, then enters a name and a phone number or email. No account, no app, nothing to download. Only real free times are shown, based on your opening hours and each person's schedule.
After booking, the client gets a confirmation (by email, by Telegram or Viber if they connect them, and by WhatsApp if you have connected WhatsApp and have the client's WhatsApp number on file) and automated reminders, and the appointment appears in your calendar straight away. If no-shows are a problem, paid plans can also ask for a deposit at booking. The page opens in the language you set for your clients (English, Spanish or Portuguese), and the booking page itself works on the Free plan.
How do I add a booking link to my Instagram bio?
Go to Edit profile, then Links, and add your booking page link. Instagram allows up to five links in the bio; put the booking link first, because it's the one shown on your profile. Then end your bio text with a short instruction like "Book your time below".
Can I add a "Book" button to my salon's Instagram?
Instagram's own "Book" action button only works with booking platforms that are official Meta partners. If your booking software isn't one, a link in your bio, a link sticker in Stories and a "Book" Highlight give clients the same one-tap path.
Is a link-in-bio page better than a direct booking link?
Not if booking is your main goal. A link-in-bio page adds an extra tap before the client sees free times. Use the direct booking link and, if you need other links, add them after it in Instagram's own list.
How do I reply to "how much?" messages without losing the client?
Give the price first, then the booking link in the same message. Saving that reply as a quick reply lets you answer in seconds, and the client can book straight away without another round of messages.
Do clients need to create an account to book through a Pronto link?
No. They choose a service and a free time, enter their name and a phone number or email, and the appointment is booked. There's no account to create and no app to download.
